Jarod O'Gorman - International achievements
World Culture Taekwondo Expo
We are very proud of Jarod who has just returned from his first international competition in Korea on the 2nd & 3rd July. He competed in a Poomase Competition in a very tough A Division (with his broken arm still in a splint and he strained his quad muscle two days before Competition) ... taking all this into account came:
6th in the World Taekwondo Culture Expo in Poomsae
Won Silver (2nd) in the world against 30 competitors in Spinning Roundhouse in Continuous Board Breaking - breaking 9 pieces of wood in 7 seconds
Taekwondo STA Poomsae Trials
Jarod recently competed in the Taekwondo STA Poomsae selection trials for 2 events and he has been selected to represent Australia in each:
Commonwealth Games Taekwondo Poomsae : this is a new selected sports to be contested in early January 2011 as a level 2 sport as part of the Commonwealth Games, the event is being held in India in January 2011.
5th World Poomsae Taekwondo Championships : this event held in Uzbekistan in October 2010 .
Furthermore he competed in a pairs event with a female partner from another Club (Taylor Summersby from Koryo Taekwondo) they finished 2nd and 3rd, just missing out on selection for Worlds and Commonwealth Games Pair event by 1 spot. They were the youngest pairs to compete at this event as the category is (14 - 35 age group) and they were simply sensational, with their best years to come.
International Taekwondo Korean Open Taekwondo Australia recently invited Jarod and 7 others to go back to Korea and train with a top Korean Grandmaster. The Australian squad including 2 Juniors and 6 Seniors (Jarod being the youngest) will be at a special training camp for 3 days and then compete in another International Taekwondo Korean Open competition afterwards. Jarod leaves on 29 August for 10 days. This Camp will be invaluable and fantastic preparation to learn from the best Grandmasters in the World in the lead up to all his 3 x International Competitions.
